Mutfwang at Nzem Berom preaches unity among Plateau tribes
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang has urged the over 50 ethnic groups in the State to unite, protect, and preserve the State’s proud heritage against aggressors who are prowling the State.
Mutfwang spoke at the 2024 Nzem Berom, (the Berom tribe’s cultural festival) and the 15th anniversary of the coronation of the Gbong Gwom Jos, His Majesty, Da Jacob Buba.
The theme of the 2024 Nzem Berom was “The Future of Berom Land: Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Reorientation,” and the event was held at the Rwang Pam Township Stadium in Jos.
The Governor commended the Berom nation for its role in promoting peace, tolerance, and solidarity and also felicitated Da Buba on his 15th anniversary as the Gbong Gwom Jos, paying glowing tribute to the leadership of the Gwong Gwom Jos in guiding the Berom nation and the State as the leading traditional ruler.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, represented by the Senator representing Plateau Central, Diket Plang praised the industrious nature and peaceful disposition of the Berom people.
Former Governor of Plateau State, Da Jonah Jang, and former Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (Rtd) encouraged reliance on divine guidance and stressed the importance of maintaining peace and unity in Plateau State and Nigeria.
In his welcome address, the Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Buba lamented the high cost of food due to the inability of the people to go to the farm due to insecurity. He also reassured the Berom nation’s commitment to cooperate with the government to find a lasting solution to the problem of insecurity.
He maintained, “A people without a culture, without traditions, are a lost people. God gave every people its territories and the Berom people desire to hand over the God-given heritage to their descendants.“
The rains have set in and people have returned to their lands for farming, they must be protected to produce food that Nigerians will eat. The high cost of food is disturbing because the supply is short due to insecurity in communities.
“We are ready to cooperate with governments as they try to find solutions to the different problems we face as a nation. Boundaries of chiefdoms, districts, and village areas should be well defined and protected…”
The event also witnessed the launching of the Berom Legacy Trust Fund to empower the youths and Governor Mutfwang, other dignitaries, illustrious sons and daughters of Berom land, and other well-wishers made generous donations to the project.
