U.S. President Donald Trump has said the United States still has the Iran conflict “very much under control,” despite growing concerns that the current ceasefire could collapse.
The comments come as tensions continue between the U.S. and Iran following weeks of military confrontation, failed peace proposals, and renewed threats from both sides. Trump recently rejected Iran’s latest response to a U.S.-backed peace proposal, describing it as “totally unacceptable,” while also warning that the ceasefire remains on “massive life support.”
Iranian officials, on the other hand, have said the country remains ready to respond militarily if attacked again, even as Tehran claims it still wants a “lasting peace.”
The conflict has already caused major disruptions in global oil markets and increased international concern over the Strait of Hormuz — one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes. U.S. lawmakers have also questioned the growing financial cost of the war, now estimated at nearly $29 billion. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also continued pushing for tougher action against Iran’s nuclear program, further increasing regional tensions.
